NABL

NABL/ ISO 15189

ISO/IEC 17025 enables laboratories to demonstrate that they operate competently and generate valid results, thereby promoting confidence in their work both nationally and around the world.

National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is a constituent board of Quality Council of India, setup under Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. As the accreditation process in initiated, NABL conducts integrated assessments with regulators such as FSSAI, EIC, APEDA and others to gauge the organizations capabilities and offers advice accordingly. This combined assessment ensures that the laboratory does not require multiple evaluations from different regulatory bodies, in turn simplifying the accreditation process.

Features & Benefits Applicability

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is useful for any organization that performs testing, sampling or calibration and wants reliable results.

This includes all types of laboratories, whether they be owned and operated by government, industry or, in fact, any other organization. The standard is also useful to universities, research centres, governments, regulators, inspection bodies, product certification organizations and other conformity assessment bodies with the need to do testing, sampling or calibration.

NABL certification for testing and calibration laboratories helps integrate data and assess it to make informed observations. When a laboratory operates in isolation, gathering data for scientific research and assessments becomes very difficult and might not be as reliable as it needs to be. NABL certification is an opportunity to rectify this shortfall as the assessment takes place in a combined way.

As such, benefits for an organization are numerous. The certification ensures continuous monitoring of a facility’s practices and performance. It promotes comparison of the performance with that of other participating facilities. It helps identify weak areas where there is room for improvement. It also enhances an organization’s risk management system and evaluation process. It also sets guidelines for staff engagement, training and gauging of competence.

NABL provides accreditation in all major fields of science and engineering, which has helped many testing facilities to gain international recognition. NABL accreditation helps the entity to reorganise processes at every level, thereby focusing on quality management and performance. NABL offers Accreditation is testing and calibration.

  • Testing Facilities Eligible for Accreditation: Biological (NABL 102), Chemical (NABL 103), Electrical (NABL 104), Electronics (NABL 105), Fluid-Flow (NABL 106), Mechanical (NABL 107), Non-Destructive (NABL 108), Photometry (NABL 109), Radiological (NABL 110), Thermal (NABL 124)
  • Calibration Facilities Eligible for Accreditation: Electro-Technical, Mechanical, Fluid Flow, Thermal, Optical & Radiological disciplines

  • NABL is a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) signatory to ILAC as well as APAC for the accreditation programs. Such international arrangements promote NABL accredited facilities to extend their work and recognition on global scale.
